June! A little bit more than one month before the end of the school year. It is the last straight line before a well deserved rest. However, Stralang will continue to serve you during the summer months in July and August before continuing with the new school year in September. 4 and 5 June 2017 : Pentecost and Whit Monday
Pentecost is a Christian festival celebrated fifty days after Easter. It honors the coming of the Holy Spirit on the apostles of Jesus Christ and announces the news of the resurrection of The Christ. This is the new mission of the Church, it is the end of Paschal time. Pentecost comes from the Jewish holiday of Shavuot which celebrates the beginning of the season and the harvest of wheat but also commemorates the gift of the Torah.
11 June 2017: First round of Legislative elections 2017
In France, the legislative elections take place in two rounds one month after the presidential elections. It is at this moment that the French elect their deputies who will sit in the National Assembly for five years. Candidates are not required to register on an electoral list. However, the nomination paper is mandatory. In France, we elect 577 deputies.

17 and 18 June 2017: 24H of Le Mans
The 24 Hours of Le Mans is a car race organized every year in Le Mans, France during the month of June. This competition has existed since 1923 and has experienced little interruption. 18 June 2017: Father's Day
Father's Day is a celebration that takes place every year and celebrates the fathers. For the religious side the festival takes its origin in the Middle Ages where the Catholics already celebrated the fathers on March 19 which corresponds to the Saint Joseph. However, the father's civil holiday originated in the United States at the beginning of the 20th century when a woman raised by her father wanted to pay tribute to her father. In France, Father’s day arrives for commercial reasons. It is ‘Flaminaire’ lighter manufacturer who came up with the idea in 1949 for commercial reasons. The festival is officially established in 1952 and is celebrated every year on the third Sunday of June. This year it takes place on March 18th.
21 June 2017: Summer solstice
The summer solstice is the longest day of the year on the north side of the equator. It corresponds to the moment when the sun is farthest from the equator. In France you may notice that on this day the sun will lie down perhaps in perfect alignment with the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. Noted that on the south side of the equator it is the shortest day of the year, this is because of the inversion of the seasons.
21 June 2017: World music day
World music day usually takes place on the first day of summer. In France the festival of music is celebrated throughout the country and all genres of music are honored. Concerts, festivals and other musical events are held on that day. But it is also an international festival that is celebrated in more than one hundred countries under the name of "World Music Day". 22 et 23 June 2017: Middle School Certificate 2017
The middle school certificate is a full-fledged degree, which certifies the acquisition of general knowledge when arrived at the end of middle school. Students who does the exam are generally between 14 and 15 years of age. This happens in continuous control and by passing tests. The exam is counted out of a total of 700 points but does not constitute a key step in the orientation as it is for the Bac which determines the passage in the higher education.
24 June 2017: Saint John (Saint-Jean)
The feast of Saint John is related to Saint John the Baptist. In the Catholic religion we celebrate the birth of St. John the Baptist who was born nine months before Jesus Christ and who baptized him in the waters of the Jordan. However, this festival also has a pagan origin and celebrates the summer solstice. During the feast of Saint John it is customary to light great fires of joys at nightfall which symbolizes the sunlight.
End of May to June 24, 2017: Ramadan
The month of Ramadan corresponds to the ninth month of the calendar of the Hegira. For Muslims this month is the most important; It is that of fasting and it also contains "Laylat-Al-Qadr" which is for Muslims the holiest night of the year. It was during this night that the Quran was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad by the 'Archangel Gabriel. During this month Muslims of the age and physical capacity do not eat, drink, smoke and do not perfume from sunrise to sunset. This month ends with a three-day celebration.
From 25 to 28 June 2017: Cinema Festival
